Privacy policy

Split & Sku is a Shopify app and browser extension published by Burner Buddy LLC, Florida, USA ("we", "us"). It splits and merges shipments and prints item SKUs or product names on shipping labels. This policy explains what data the app and the extension use, what we keep, and how it is deleted.
Data the app reads from Shopify
When a store installs Split & Sku, it gives the app access to the store's orders, fulfillment orders, products and locations. The app uses this access only to:
- apply the store's split and merge rules to new orders;
- find which order a shipping label belongs to (by its tracking number) and read the SKUs, product names and quantities to print on it;
- buy shipping labels when the store asks it to.
Shipping labels show the customer's name and address. The app opens labels only to add text to them: they are processed in memory, returned to the store, and not stored.
Data we store
For each store, we store:
- the store's Shopify address and the access key Shopify issues to the app;
- its settings: label settings, split and merge rules, label text exceptions, font sizes, and what prints for particular products (including any custom text the store types in);
- custom label placements: a coarse outline of a label's layout (which areas are printed or blank) and the chosen text position. The label itself, and anything printed on it, is not kept;
- an activity log: order numbers, the SKUs moved between shipments, and records of labels bought through the app (order number, status and date);
- browser extension connections: a name chosen by the store (such as "Packing station") and a scrambled (hashed) copy of the connection code;
- records of privacy requests received from Shopify.
We do not store customer names, email addresses, phone numbers or addresses, or payment details.
The browser extension
The extension works only on the pages Shopify opens when a store prints a shipping label. It sends that label's link to the Split & Sku app, which downloads the label from Shopify, adds the item text and sends it back to be shown and printed. Labels include the customer's name and address; they are used only for this and are not kept by the app or the extension.
The extension keeps the store's connection code in the browser's own storage, so it can connect to the app. It does not read other websites, track browsing, or use analytics.
Sharing
We do not sell or rent data, and we do not share it with advertisers. Data is processed only by the services needed to run the app: Shopify, and Render (Render Services, Inc., USA), which hosts the app and its database.
How long we keep data
- When a store uninstalls the app, its access key and browser extension connections are deleted straight away.
- Shopify then asks us to delete the store's data (48 hours after uninstalling), and we delete everything we hold for that store.
- When Shopify asks us to delete data for a customer, we delete the activity log entries and label records for that customer's orders. When Shopify asks what we hold for a customer, we report it to the store.
- Our hosting provider keeps short-term server logs (for example, the time and length of requests) for troubleshooting.
Your rights
Customers of a store that uses Split & Sku should contact that store about their data; the store can request access or deletion through Shopify, and we act on those requests. Stores can contact us at any time to ask what we hold or to have it deleted.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to the app requires a Shopify login or a connection code that the store can revoke at any time.
Children
Split & Sku is a tool for businesses and is not meant for children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above.
